How to Clean Wood and Felt Toys?

Every home has a box or a cupboard full of toys that have been lovingly collected over the years. As a parent, it can be hard to watch our children have their little fingers poked by a sharp edge, or slip on a toy that is covered in dirt and filth. Throwing away these beloved toys can be difficult, so cleaning them is an ideal solution. In the past, children were expected to get hands-on experience playing with their toys.

Wood and felt toys tend to get dirty faster than plastic toys and keeping them clean can be a bit of a challenge. You might think that rinsing them in water and then leaving them in the sun would do the trick, but it doesn't always work.

Cleaning toys is not an exciting job. We know that you would rather be playing instead of cleaning up. However, cleaning toys is extremely important for personal hygiene reasons, especially during cold and flu season.

Where there are children, there is most likely to be a toy they own. And whether it’s an old rocking horse, a train set, or a doll house, the trash is always likely to be full of unwanted toys. If you invest in high-quality wooden toys for your children, you can ensure that you can pass them down for generations to come. That’s the beauty of investing in wooden toys.

There’s a very easy way to ensure your kids toys stay clean and tidy, which isn’t very time consuming either.

·         Keep it natural with mild dish soap, vinegar (white vinegar or apple cider works well) or

·         You can use other non-toxic multipurpose cleaners diluted with water.

·         Wood has a natural antibacterial quality so it will not be as affected by germs as plastic toys.

·         Never soak or immerse wooden toys in the water.

·         Just spray the mild cleaning solution, wipe with a cloth and warm water, then air dry.

·         Wood is porous so soaking might cause them to swell and change shape.

·         Drying in the sun is great as it speeds up the drying process and the sun is a natural way to kill more germs. However, strong sunlight or prolonged exposure can lead to colour fade and cracking – so monitor it.
